PLEATSMAMA | CAMPAIGN

LOVE Edition is a campaign focused on local recycling. We collect PET bottles in a city, makes threads, and turn them into products with region identity and characteristics. These are our moves to build a local circulation ecosystem.

The clothing industry often has factories overseas. The amount of carbon emitted when moving raw materials is enormous, leaving a large carbon footprint. Recycling projects of various brands also have the equal problem.

Here, PLEATSMAMA felt a sense of problem and planned the LOVE Edition. Seeing our LOVE Edition as a long-term project, we are making incessant attempts in Korea. After going through a regional recycling process, we make a product that manifests the identity of each region. We wish to reduce carbon footprint and encourage people or corporations in relation to the region to have a closer look into recycling.

A city and a region contain memories, stories, and feelings of many. If our project is prolonged, PLEATSMAMA wishes to expand our project internationally. We would be more than grateful to raise global interest by recycling, in global cities such as Hawaii and New York.

LOVE JEJU

"Love JEJU" is PLEATSMAMA’s first LOVE Edition, as well as a Jeju Resource Circulation Project.

Up to 10,000 tons of plastic marine waste is generated in Jeju Island per year. Thanks to all wholehearted commitments of Jeju citizens, clean plastic bottles were disposed separately. With the help of technology of Hyosung TNC, ’regen® jeju’, polyester yarn with 100% Jeju waste PET bottles, was produced. It was the initial attempt to turn domestic bottles into polyester that turned out successful. ‘regen® jeju’ is followed by another record, commercialization of ‘creora® regen’, 100% recycled spandex.

PLEATSMAMA introduced LOVE JEJU Editions with regen® jeju and creora® regen, with items such as nano bag, ruck sack, fleece jacket, net bag, and recycled T-shirts.

Each product was given a name with the color of Jeju. Basalt Black, Gimnyeong Beach Blue, Jeju Tangerine, Bijarim Forest Green... We filled the color of the edition with symbolic places and objects full of Jeju memories, so that residents and visitors can be reminded of sustainable lifesytle. Do not miss our pilot projects from two small Jeju islands, ‘Udo’ and ‘Chujado’, incorporating flap crossbags and Chuja blanket.

LOVE SEOUL

Love SEOUL is PLEATSMAMA’s second Love Edition and Seoul Resource Circulation Project. In March 2021, PLEATSMAMA introduced our products with 100% Seoul PET bottles, following JEJU Edition.

Cosmopolis Seoul has population of over 10 million, which imply its enormous amount of resource and waste. This directly connects to inevitable carbon emission. Such Seoul is where PLEATSMAMA picked as our second inspirational site of Love Edition. We hope all to witness that our project can reach out no matter how big the city is, proving the value and possibility of recycling.

Therefore, we collected Seoul PET bottles, just as we did in Jeju. With recycled polyester ‘regen® seoul’, PLEATSMAMA featured our new collection line with garment pieces such as loungewear, sweatshirt, leggings, etc. on top of our pleat bags. Love SEOUL Edition is colored with Seoul, with item names ‘Cherry Blossom Pink’, ‘Dancheong Red’, ‘Namsan Mountain Green’, and ‘Seoul Sky Blue’.

LOVE BUSAN

Love BUSAN is PLEATSMAMA’s third Love Edition –project entirely made with local resources of Busan.

Love JEJU was definitely moment of truth that revealed environmental issue of Jeju island: the more we visit Jeju, the more it suffers from the remains. It hit us hard when we witnessed how Jeju is filled with more and more trash with new visitors. It was only a portion of Jeju that we saw, but we had a hunch that this problem can reach out to be an island, a nation, and even a world.

This is how we chose Busan, another representative city of Korea, after Jeju and Seoul. PLEATSMAMA wishes to guide you through recycling and eco-friendly environment for a sustainable life through the Love BUSAN Edition.

PLEATSMAMA expressed Busan's unique chicness with deep black colors. We wish our positive messages to reach out around the world, beyond Busan and Korea.
