Recycle Plastic Bottles
PLEATSMAMA products are made of recycled plastic bottles. There is a reason for selecting a plastic bottle over a glass or aluminum can: glass bottles are heavier than PET bottles and require more fuel for transportation. In the meantime, aluminum cans are put in a high-temperature furnace to be melted and recycled. However, aluminum cans have higher melting point than plastic bottles. These two differences overall cause more harm on the environment. Thus, PLEATSMAMA selected plastic bottles. We instruct our users to wash PET bottles and remove labels before discarding them. In that way, we can recycle the maximum number of plastic bottles with the least amount of carbon emitted.
Production
We use domestic recycled plastic bottles to make polyester and our products. The rest of the production are also carried out in South Korea, solely depending on local infrastructures, all as part of an effort to minimize the carbon footsteps and oil usage. By not importing material or reassigning any part of the production overseas, we are able to lower the mileage. Also, recycling plastic bottles helps lower the numbers of bottles that end up in the ocean or buried underground.

The sky of 2021 was remarkably stunning in Seoul. But the inconvenient truth behind it was that it was due to climate change itself. The whole point of zero carbon is to eventually overcome climate change. And the first step to make this happen is by figuring out what causes high carbon footprint and how to manage the corresponding cause.

We hope to continue to share the results of our efforts with you, through collecting data on carbon emission of the fashion industry and measuring how much PLEATSMAMA has reduced. Furthermore, PLEATSMAMA will wholeheartedly endeavor to role as the representative eco-friendly platform of fashion industry.
